💻 Binary Translator
Translate text to 8-bit binary and back, with space-separated bytes — all in your browser, no upload, instant results.
About the Binary Translator
This binary translator runs entirely in your browser. Type plain text to convert each character into its 8-bit binary representation, or paste binary to decode it back into text. Nothing is uploaded to a server — all conversion happens locally with JavaScript on your device.
What is binary text?
Binary is the base-2 number system used by computers. Each character is stored as a sequence of 0s and 1s according to its ASCII or Unicode code point. For example, the letter A has the ASCII code 65, which is 01000001 in 8-bit binary. This tool uses the UTF-8 encoding of each character, then takes the lower 8 bits for a compact representation.
How to use the translator
- Type or paste text into the top box, or paste binary into the bottom box.
- Click To Binary to encode text, or From Binary to decode binary.
- The binary output uses 8 bits per character, separated by single spaces.
- Click Copy result to copy the output to your clipboard, or Clear to start over.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool upload my text? No. All conversion happens locally in your browser. Your text never leaves your device.
How are characters encoded? Each character is converted to its UTF-8 byte sequence. For ASCII characters (0–127) this is a single 8-bit byte. Multi-byte characters produce multiple 8-bit groups.
Does the binary need spaces between bytes? Spaces are recommended for decoding. The decoder splits on any whitespace, so spaces, tabs, or newlines all work.
Is there a length limit? The only limit is your browser's available memory. Even very long messages convert instantly.
